Taking the fight for Special Category Status (SCS) to the national capital, YSR Congress has blown the bugle of dissent, squarely blaming Chandrababu Naidu and his malevolent agenda of self promotion at the cost of Andhra Pradesh welfare and said that it will continue the fight till the goal is achieved and has mustered support of other parties for the cause, besides drawing national attention on the issue.
YSR Congress MPs, MLAs, leaders and cadre held a massive dharna here on Monday in a high pitched protest that reverberated in the resumed Budget session of Parliament with the slogan SCS is our right, do not be cheated by special package.
Speaking at the Maha Dharna, Party senior leaders V Vijayasai Reddy, Melkapati Rajamohan Reddy, YV Subba Reddy, Vara Prasad, Mithun Reddy, Ummaredy Venkateswarlu, Pilli Subashchandra Bose and others said, our Party President and Leader of Opposition YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been relentlessly fighting on the SCS at various forums while Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has mortgaged the state interests for his personal gains in Delhi and has been singing different tunes on the issue to suit the occasion.
While he has demanded SCS for an extended period of 15 years during electioneering, after coming to power he has tried to water it down and started questioning the importance of status and accepted what he called a package which was beneficial to him and his coterie.
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has chalked out the agitation programme and we held picketing at all the District Collector offices on March 1 which was a roaring success and now this Maha Dharna is being held to tell the nation how SCS is being denied to Andhra Pradesh despite being promised in the floor of the Parliament during the bifurcation of the state.
The MPs of the Party will take up the issue inside the Parliament as well and on March 21, we are prepared to move the no trust motion against the NDA government of which TDP is a partner. Throughout the Budget session, we will continue to raise the issue and if the Centre does not concede to our demand till the penultimate day, our Party MPs will resign in protest on April 6.
Chandrababu Naidu lacks sincerity on the issue and has been feigning ignorance and his double standards have come to the fore with TDP MPs talking about SCS from their tongue tips while the two MPs continue to be in the Union Cabinet and express no protest. These double standards have been exposed well and their intent has been clear, they said.
The top leaders were later arrested while they were heading towards the Parliament to submit a memorandum to Union Home Minister on the SCS.
