Actions speak louder than words. The increasing cases of cow vigilantism and lynching targeting the minority community and Dalits is a known fact since the BJP came to power in 2014. It has trebled in the last two years and the narrative has drastically changed too. From giving lip service to the victims it has now gradually evolved to open support to those perpetuating violence against the “other.”

Giriraj Singh visits riot accused

Hence we are not surprised when Jayant Sinha reaches those accused of lynching Ansari and garlanding/felicitating them after release on bail. We should not ponder over the fact that minister Giriraj Singh actually visited riot accused in Nawada jail in Bihar (and not the riot victims). Here we must recall that our present Prime Minister, when he visited the Muslim shelters after 2002 Gujarat riots called them “baby-making machines.”

Modi government is “lynch-Pujari”- Kapil Sibal

Congress leader Kapil Sibal termed the Modi government “lynch-Pujari” (worshippers of lynching). CPM chief Sitaram Yechury too condemned Sinha’s action. “We don’t need to look far to see who or which ideology is tearing our social fabric apart: when Union ministers patronise those convicted of lynching.”
