The Opposition parties have slammed the Chandrababu Naidu government for levying an additional burden of Rs 4 on the petrol. Due to this the consumers in Andhra Pradesh were being put to great difficulties, they said.

Opposing the petro price hike the Left Parties and the Jana Sena staged a dharna at all mandal headquarters. In Vijayawada, the dharna caused severe traffic snarls as they protesters blocked the roads.

To clear the traffic, the police had to intervene and arrest CPI leader Ramakrishna and CPM leader Madhu. Speaking on the occasion, CPI leader Ramakrishna said the BJP government at the centre was indiscriminately hiking the excise tax on the fuel.

In addition, Chandrababu Naidu was levying another Rs 4 per litre in addition to the already existing VAT.

He said the petrol and diesel prices in Andhra Pradesh were much higher than those in Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. He demanded that Chandrababu bring down the hiked prices immediately.
