Around one lakh motorbikes are expected to participate at the rally to be held in Jind, Haryana by Amit Shah , the President of the BJP. The party under its President who is forever on election mode, srategising for the next election in state /centre plans to kickstart the 2019 Lok Sabha election in Haryana with this rally.

Responding to a petition filed by advocate Victor Dhissa seeking both screening and a reduction in the number of bikes which were likely to participate in the rally to be held on February 15, the National Green Tribunal has given notices to both the Centre and State government on the issue.

“Reduce number of motorbikes or use bicycles

“Direct the respondents (authorities) to either reduce the number of motorbikes proposed to be mobilised or use more environment-friendly modes and methods, such as bicycles, by foot or e-rickshaws. “And constitute a committee to assess the adverse impacts that may be caused with regard to air pollution and noise pollution if the proposed rally is taken out,” the plea said.

At a time when the entire Delhi–NCR has been facing several health problems due to severe air pollution, the motorbike rally will definitely have an adverse impact on the air quality.

It is now the turn of NGT to prove that it is more than a paper tiger.
