Cockfights enthralled people in almost all the districts of coastal belt of Andhra Pradesh despite ban imposed on the blood sport during Sankranthi festivities on Sunday.

People who arrived in their hometowns and villages from far off places, have had a chance to witness cockfights on Sunday morning. Public representatives along with businessmen, other officials along with scores of villagers took part in the sport with large scale betting in Gofavari Delta. Places in East and West Godavari districts, Krishna, Prakasam and Nellore witnessed large scale bettings.

In Mammidivaram and Pallamkur villages of East Godavari district, cockfighting organised have set up a stage as people thronged to witness the sport in an open area. MLA Buchibabu started off the cockfight at Murumulla village.

Meanwhile, the police registered over 600 cases against organisers who are operating the cockfights in East and West Godavari districts for the last two days. In order to implement the high court orders, the police teams are on high alert to curb cockfights in the state.
