As many as 3,500 farmers, who came to attend seminar on natural farming here at Acharya Nagarjuna University, were taken ill reportedly due to food poisoning on Wednesday. According to reports, farmers from various places in the state came to attend natural farming session.
All the participants were provided with food and accommodation at the camp. On the fourth day, several farmers complained of stomach ache and vomiting after consuming food in the camp. Some of them were shifted to Guntur Government Hospital while some of them are undergoing treatment in local clinics.
Joint Collector M Venkateshwara Rao along with JDA M Vijaya Bharathi and food committee members held a meeting. It is learnt that the participants were taken ill due to consumption of stale food that was stored from the past two days.
