The BJP which won the recently held assembly elections for a sixth time (after a grinding campaign which saw the Prime Minister doing all the work for his party), decided to retain Vijay Rupani as the Chief Minister.

The same was announced by Arun Jaitley in Gandhinagar on Friday, December 22nd, after a core committee meeting. He said all MLAs at the meeting made the unanimous decision to choose Rupani and Patel to lead the state legislature.

In turn the Chief Minister Rupani thanked the leaders who won the election on his behalf.He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National President Amit Shah for “reposing trust and confidence in a humble karyakarta like me”.

Rupani won the Rajkot West seat for his party by a margin of 25,000 votes while his deputy Nitin Patel won Mehsana by a narrower margin of 2,200 votes.
