The constituency of the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa has been vacant since her death. Today, on Thursday, December 21st 2017, by polls were held there amidst great security and many controversies.
The AIADMK have fielded senior leader E. Madhusudanan, who has held the seat before. He will be contesting the RK Nagar by poll against T.T. Dhinakaran and DMK’s Marudhu Ganesh. The AIADMK will want to win the election at any cost to establish that Chief Minister E Palaniswami and his team are very much incharge of the state.
There have been allegations of bribery and circulation of unverified videos of notes distribution. This includes sting operations by national TV channels.
The Election Commission has refused to postpone the RK Nagar by-election despite pleas from the opposition DMK, citing no evidence.
The counting of votes will be held on December 24.
