A powerful cyclone Ockhi struck the East coast on November 29th and caused massive destruction, especially in the coastal towns of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Nearly 200 fishermen are still missing in Kerala.

India’s navy, air force and coast guard have rescued 252 fishermen in the state of Kerala so far but, according to official estimates,nearly 200 fishermen are still missing.

The cyclone Ockhi, which brought back terrifying memories of the tsunami in 2004 that devastated coasts along the Indian Ocean.

Grieving families back in Kerala also allege the authorities did not issue early warnings or convey the extent of the danger, which would have saved many lives.

Nearly 427 fishermen missing in Tamil Nadu?

The situation was similar in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, where nearly 427 fishermen were said to be missing. The Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu alleged negligence by the government and failure of effective rescue operations.
