Offence is the best form of defence. This seems to be the stance of the Uttar Pradesh government under Yogi Adityanath. Following the uproar over the deaths of nearly 70 children due to an alleged cut in oxygen supply to the BRD government hospital in Gorakhpur, the government has decided to take criminal action against doctors by filing FIRs against them in the Hazratganj police station.

Clean chit to Ministers

Giving a clean chit to the U.P ministers and bureaucrats who are in-charge of the Medical and Health department, it has filed criminal action procedures/FIRs against doctors, including Dr Rajeev Mishra(former Principal of hospital), Dr Satish Kumar(Oxygen supply in-charge and HOD of Anaesthesia)and Dr Kafeel Khan(Nodal in-charge of Paediatric ward). An FIR was also filed against Pushpa Sales, the private firm that was supplying liquid oxygen to the hospital.

This action was taken following the recommendations of the four-member committee under Chief Secretary to the CM. The report submitted to the U.P government does not mention the deaths of the children nor does it clarify whether the deaths were due to no oxygen supply. It conveniently refers to the whole episode as the “Gorakhpur incident.”
