Accident and incident–prone London suffered another tragedy today. Grenfell Tower, a London high-rise apartment building in West London, faced a major fire accident, leaving at least six people dead, 74 people injured, of whom 20 are in critical condition.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed in a statement that a number of people have been killed in the fire. The police, however, said it will take some time to confirm the cause of the fire. The Metropolitan Police Commander Stuart Cundy said, “I can confirm six fatalities at this time but this figure is likely to rise during what will be a complex recovery operation over a number of days. Many others are receiving medical care.”
Around 250 firefighters, 40 fire engines, 100 medics and 100 Metropolitan police officials are at the spot as we read this and trying to evacuate residents from the tower as well as those from buildings nearby. Several people have sustained injuries and are being treated. The number of people taken to the hospital has increased to 50, confirm London Ambulance Service.
