But they succeed in a more subtle way- that is it divides the Muslim votes. Wherever, Muslims are a sizeable population they vote against the BJP. In UP where the Babri Masjid demolition in Ayodhya and the promise of building Ram temple in the disputed site still remains the major factor in the state.

By fielding the local Muslim leaders the MIM can achieve only one purpose- that is In the 73 seats in western U.P. which have elections today , the BJP hopes to benefit from this split — the party has not fielded a single Muslim.
