Voting ends in Punjab and Goa

As voting ends in the two states of Punjab and Goa,there is a calm on the exterior but inside it is testing time for both the BJP and the Congress. For the latter, it could be a do or die situation as it may decide the “votability” of its young leader, Rahul Gandhi, who inspite of all the negative personal propaganda against him has given his best for the Congress. For the BJP, it is a crucial election as this will determine the public mood not only to the demonetization fiasco but also for their performance since the 2014 elections.

It is only for the AAP, a first time contestant in both states that the stakes are not so high . And it is the Aam Aadmi party ,under Arvind Kejriwal that is giving both the BJP and the Congress sleepless nights. The Aam Aadmi Party’s call “Kejriwal, Kejriwal, saara Punjab tere naal (Kejriwal, all of Punjab is with you)” could prove right as the state seems set to vote for a change from the present ruling regime comprising Akali Dal and BJP.

Voter turnout was more than 67% in Punjab and 83% in Goa. The Electronic voting machines developed glitches in many parts of Punjab, especially in Majitha and Sangrur due to which voting began late there. The voting was free from any violent incidents.

The results will be known in 5 weeks, on 11^th March.
