Fearless journalist and activist, Gauri Lankesh who was shot dead outside her residence yesterday was today on September 6th laid to rest in Chamarajnagar, Bangalore after a state funeral attended by the Karnataka Chief Minister, Siddharamaiah and many other ministers.

SIT to probe Gauri Lankesh’s killing

The Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharamaiah who condemned the most brutal murder in no uncertain terms has ordered a Special Investigation team to probe the killing of the journalist. The police are looking at the CCTv footage of the cameras outside her residence in their attempt to identify the killers. It is suspected that hired killers were behind the crime and the so called “supari” murder will be a riddle like many before this, with no evidence to trace the actual people who hired the killers.

Civil society in India unites to protest killing

Like never before, journalists, intellectuals, Dalits and many others united in their protest against the murder of Gauri Lankesh. In all the major cities and towns of the country, hundreds of people gathered to raise their voice and repeat that Gauri cannot be silenced.

Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee joined the protest march in Kolkata. In Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Pune, Bhubhaneshwar and many other places, people marched in protest.

The chant of “Gauri Lankesh Amar Rahe” rent the air in the emotional farewell to Gauri Lankesh in Bangalore.
