Khaidi No 150 Review

Kaththi Seenu (Chiranjeevi) escapes from Kolkata jail and lands in Hyderabad. He stumbles upon his lookalike Shankar. Seenu saves Shankar from an accident but he sends back him to jail in place of him. Seenu, however, gets to know about Shankar’s life who is fighting for the downtrodden farmers of his Neeruru village. Shankar takes up cudgels on farmers behalf and begins to fight for their rights. After knowing this, Seenu decides to carry on Shankar’s unfilled mission and stands behind the farmers of Neeruru in Rayalaseema.

How Seenu solves the problems of villages? That forms the rest of the story.

Despite the fact that Chiranjeevi is in his sixties, he has looked like in thirties and his energy levels are amazing. He is best in dance moves and action stunts. Chiru’s presence itself mesmerizes and he emotes supremely well throughout the film. Kajal Aggarwal is beautiful but there is nothing to talk about her role as she is limited to songs. The villainy done by Tarun Arora fail to give desired results. The film has a huge supporting cast Ali as Parvathi, Brahmi as Dabar, Ravibabu as cook and Posani as Borabanda Bujji who go about their roles with quite well.

Khaidi No 150 has rich production values. Cinematography by Ratnavelu deserves a mention. He revels in using warm, ambient light wherever possible, effectively bathing the frames in a play of light and shadow. Devi Sri Prasad’s music is foot-tapping but background score in the emotional scenes is not upto the mark. Editing is ok and the film needs trimming in the second half. But credit should go to both Vinayak and Ratnavelu for showcasing Chiru in a way that fans will be hugely satisfied with.

Coming to direction, VV Vinayak have not spoiled the original movie’s content and made the Telugu version look like an exact copy of Kathhi. But Many get a feeling that the Kathhi feel is missing in Khaidi No 150. Vinayak, who is well known for his action scenes, does not show that magic in Khaidi.

Those who have not watched Kathhi will surely like Khaidi. The movie is on the right track throughout but it dips at some places. The movie still troubles you along the way as the comic scenes between Chiru and Brahmi won’t evoke many laughs. The first half is pretty decent and maintains a good pace. The second half is also gripping but climax is not effective. Though the chemistry between Chiranjeevi and Kajal Aggarwal is not crackling, they have looked good as a pair. It also needs trimming post interval.

Overall, Khaidi No 150 will surely go well with all Chiranjeevi fans but others find it as an average fare.
