Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday announced exemption of entertainment tax (ET) for actor Balakrishna-starring Telugu film “Gautamiputra Satakarni”.

The actor, an MLA from Andhra Pradesh and brother-in-law of AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, met KCR at Pragathi Bhavan and requested that his film “Gautamiputra Satakarni” be exempted from the ET, as it is a historical film, a press release from the government said.

“Responding to Balskrishna’s request, the Chief Minister has instructed the officials concerned to issue the orders,” it said.

KCR said his government has decided to support and encourage films based on noted historical personalities.

In this context, he recalled that the ET exemption was given to an earlier historical film “Rudrama Devi”. In future too, this policy will continue, the CM said.

Thanking the Chief Minister for his “generous” gesture, Balakrishna said the entire shooting of the film was completed in a record number of 78 days.

Balakrishna also invited the CM to watch the first show of the flick, which is set to release on January 12.
