Prime Minister Narendra Modi was found to give pre-scripted answers to reporters in his recent visit to Singapore. During a discussion at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University on June 1st, Modi was asked about the challenges faced by Asia, Modi replied in Hindi and his English translator read out a passage which included facts that were not part of Modi’s answer. This has prompted speculation by everyone, especially the Opposition, that the questions and Modi’s answers were scripted.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Sunday tweeted, “When the translator says what the PM was supposed to say, but didn’t.” And Rahul Gandhi had ample opportunity to speak too: “The first Indian PM who takes “spontaneous” questions that the translator has pre-scripted answers to! Good that he doesn’t take real questions. Would have been a real embarrassment to us all if he did.”
It must be noted that Modi has never given a press conference since occupying the PM seat. He has only given scripted interviews to selected TV channels in India and of course spoken in Mann ki Baat which is a totally one sided affair.
