International don Javed Ibrahim stays in an island nation, where Satya Marthand (Kalyan Ram) a journalist, who fakes his identity as Kalyan Ram, a street fighter. Alia Khan is Javed’s daughter and falls in love with Kalyan Ram. The twist comes towards interval where the identity of Satya Marthand is revealed. Why did Satya Marthand fake his identity? What happens to his love, Alia Khan? Forms the story.
Frankly speaking Puri failed at showcasing the strong story on screen. The cinema involves long lectures on journalism, but hero has done nothing as a journalist. The first half showcases the love track and Javed’s underground operations, while the second half reveals the connection between the hero and villain’s business. The court scene in climax is similar to NTR’s ‘Temper’ and Chiranjeevi’s ‘Tagore’. But the performance of Kalyan Ram in the court scene is his career’s best. Though Kalyan Ram strived a lot to transform is body, Puri’s formula that was successful with NTR, did not work out well with Kalyan Ram. Besides these Aditi Arya, debut heroine though added beauty quotient to the film, could not bring expressions on her face. The tunes look fine with the visuals, but are not that good that you set them on repeat mode.
Other than Kalyan Ram’s makeover, attitude, intensity, make over and Puri mark strong, interesting climax are the only amusements that can attract audience. These days it has become common that Puri is relying more on climax than on prior play, this ideology of his has resulted in this failure. The flick also does not answer questions like is it that easy to hack such a huge bank’s accounts? On the whole, ‘Ism’ is a one-time watch, that too just for Kalyan Ram’s makeover and new side of actor this film portrays.
