Addressing a gathering at Bucerius Summer School in Hamburg, Germany as a part of his 4-day tour of Europe, Congress President, Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, 22.8.2018, linked the rise in mob lynchings to joblessness that has peaked in India as a result of the ruling party delivering the twin blows of demonetisation and the badly implemented GST.
He criticised the Modi government and said that it had taken away protections from marginalised castes and communities. He added in the same vein, “They( the BJP government) feel that tribal communities, poor farmers, lower caste people, minorities shouldn’t get the same benefits as the elite.”
Also referring to his now famous gesture of hugging the PM in the Parliament, Rahul Gandhi defended his action saying that he wanted to tell Modi that the world is not so bad after all.
Excluding people leads to insurgency, said Rahul and went on to give the example of US invasion of Iraq, creating anger and exclusion, finally culminating in the terrible birth of Islamic state or ISIS.
On 23.8.2018, Rahul Gandhi will address the Indian Overseas Congress in Berlin. He is scheduled to meet the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He will also visit the United Kingdom where he will address an event organised by the Indian Overseas Congress.
