Mughalsarai Junction was formally renamed after RSS ideologue Deen Dayal Uphadyay. The BJP president Amit Shah, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were present in the event of renaming today, on 5.8.2018.
Upadhyay was found dead in mysterious circumstances near the Mughalsarai station in February 1968. Mughalsarai is also the birthplace of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.
The BJP president took the opportunity to criticize the Opposition leaders, Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav and Mayavathi. “I want to inform Rahul Gandhi, BJP has given 4.5 lakh underprivileged women gas cylinders and 2 crore homes with electricity connection to the poor, what did the Congress party do in 55 years?” Amit Shah asked at the inauguration.
The station building has been touched up with saffron paint at places and signboards with the new name has been put up.
