Again the impunity of the Uttar Pradesh police was on public display. A video which has now become viral shows how the UP police beat up two female students who were waving black scarves at BJP chief Amit Shah’s motorcade in Allahabad. Male police officers removed them forcibly from the scene, pulled a student by her hair and also used baton to beat them. A male student was also roughened up.

The students belonged to Allahabad University. Police said the students, 25-year-old Neha Yadav, 24-year-old Rama Yadav and Kishan Maurya – will be produced before court today.

According to reports, the three of them are part of Samajwadi Party’s student wing. It must be recalled that the Uttar Pradesh police have banned black flags, handkerchiefs or clothes from the rallies of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath after a series of incidents where black flags were shown to him in rallies across the large state.

The opposition in the state, Samajwadi party and the Congress have demanded immediate and strict punishment to the involved police officers.
