Seven state police jawans were killed on Sunday morning in Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh, when Maoists allegedly blew up their vehicle with an improvised explosive device (IED) the police said. The policemen were travelling in a SUV and Special Director-General of police (anti-Naxal operations) DM Awasthi confirmed the deaths, adding that the Maoists targeted the team of state police jawans who were escorting a truck carrying material for road construction in the area.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh was scheduled to arrive in Chattisgarh
There were unconfirmed reports that the Home Minister Rajnath Singh was scheduled to visit the state on Sunday, when the blast took place. “Deeply anguished to know about the death of Chhattisgarh police personnel in an IED blast in Dantewada today. My thoughts are with the bereaved families of the martyred police personnel.”
The weapons carried by the police were found missing from the spot but later an AK 47 rifle was found nearby. Chief Minister of Chattisgarh alleged that Maoists were against development and promised equal retaliation by police.
The circle of violence will continue.
