The invincible BJP election machine of PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah had to accept failure in the neighbouring state of Karnataka today, when their 2-day old Chief Minister B.S.Yedyurappa announced his failure to show the required number of MLAs ahead of the floor test and announced his resignation.
Supreme court decision crucial
The decision to advance the 15 day period given by the Governor to BJP government to prove majority was downright rejected by the SC which ordered the floor test within 24 hours. This proved valuable for the Congress and JD(S) which secured its respective MLAs in Hyderabad to keep them away from “poaching” by the BJP which was 7 short of the magic figure of 112.
Kumaraswamy to take oath on Monday
The JD(S) leader and son of Deve Gowda, H.D.Kumaraswamy has now been invited by the Governor to form government. He profusely thanked all those who were crucial in his elevation as CM in a post-poll alliance, having secured only 38 seats. “I want to thank Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad and other Congress leaders and MLAs for their support. I want to thank everyone, people of Karnataka, Mayawati ji for their support”, said Kumaraswamy.
