The Supreme court today, on 18.5.2018 passed a landmark judgement by ordering the BJP Chief Minister B.S.Yedyurappa to take the floor test in 24 hours and not 15 days as was specified previously by the Governor. This was in response to the petition filed by Congress- Janata Dal Secular (JDS) combine challenging Karnataka Governor’s controversial invitation to the BJP’s BS Yeddyurappa to become chief minister.
SC judgement hailed as historic by Congress, Opposition
“The judgement of the Supreme Court is historic. The governor’s role in the constitution is very important and he must be unbiased. But in Karnataka, the governor has taken decisions to favor the BJP. Mr Yeddyurappa who has 104 MLAs including himself, in the letter requested for 7 days, he had no other name, yet Governor invited him. It was unconstitutional, Governor even gave him 15 days time,” Siddaramaiah , former Chief Minister of Karnataka said on Thursday.

Congress MLAs in Hyderabad, given protection

Now all that changes with this decision by the Supreme court. The poaching of Congress and JD(S) MLAs by the BJP which is short of majority by 8 is expected and already accusations and allegations are flying high. DK Shivakumar, Campaign President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, has accused the BJP of abducting MLA Anand Singh enroute to Bangalore and intimidating other MLAs. Some MLAs, including Singh, have been allegedly threatened with Enforcement Directorate enquiries. HD Kumaraswamy of the JD(S) had alleged that the BJP was trying to bribe its MLAs into defecting to their side by promising them Rs 100 crores each!
The suspense will end by Saturday evening
