Andhra Pradesh Roads and Buildings minister CH Ayyannapatrudu has opposed strongly the reservations provided in education and employment on caste and religion basis . His comments assumed political significance following the increased unrest among Kapus who have been fighting to accord BC status to thier community in Andhra.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has made promise that he will accord BC status to Kapu community once he comes to power in 2014 elections. Boya and others communities also demanded to increase their quota.
The minister said he favoured reservation on the basis of economic condition of each family and strongly opposed caste and religion based reservation. He pointed out that the families who already availed the benefits were exploiting reservation for thier future generations also. The other poorer sections in the same community were deprived as they were not aware of the reservation benefits.
Ayyannapatrudu wanted each family should get reservation benefit for once only. He has been demanding the union and state governments to bring changes in the reservation system but no action has been taken so far. He said reservation should also be extended to the poor families in the forward castes for thier upliftment.
