Heavy rains followed by a cloudburst over the city of Hyderabad on Monday, October 2nd caused untold misery due to lack of any proper drainage system, resulting in inundation of many areas of the city and overflowing of many drains/nalas.
Nearly 12 centimetres of rain was recorded in some areas and the India Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana over the next three days.
Three people killed
Three people were killed and many injured. A 35 year youth died of electrocution at Mehboob Chowk. John Edulu (35) and his 6-months old son also died when a wall collapsed in Zohra Nagar, Singada Kunta, Banjara Hills area. John’s wife Mera (30) was seriously injured.
Not smart cities when it rains
Drains overflowed at many places, inundating major roads in Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Cyderabad and the outskirts of the city. Many areas were without power supply for hours and some are still flooded.
The administration has ordered all schools and colleges to remain shut on Tuesday, October 3rd.
