20 killed as lorry rams electric post in Chittoor

In a tragic road accident, as many as 20 people were killed when a lorry ran over pedestrians in Chittoor on Friday.

According to reports, 20 people were killed and 20 others were injured after the lorry hit the electric pole before running over pedestrians. As the pole capsized, the live wires snapped causing electrocution to a few.

The incident happened on the Putalapattu-Naidupeta road and the driver of the lorry lost control over the vehicle. The injured were shifted to Ruia hospital in Tirupati town.

The condition of 10 injured persons is said to be serious. Traffic came on Renigunta and Tirupati routes came to a halt following the accident.

Expressing shock over the incident, AP CM Chandrababu Naidu directed the district Collector to oversee the relief operations
