Electronic voting machine malfunctions in demo

The EVM malfunctioned during demonstration a demonstration in Bhind, MP. The button for the Samajwadi party was pressed but vote went to BJP. How did this happen? But this really occurred during an official media demonstration ahead of an assembly by election in Madhya Pradesh next week.

The chief electoral officer Saleena Singh had pressed the button for the Samajwadi Party candidate, but the ‘Electronic voting machine’ or EVM generated a receipt for the BJP. The officer however dismissed it as a case occurring before calibration of the machine

The opposition parties have cried foul and have sought an explanation from the Election Commission.

EVM gadbad goes viral

A video of the incident went viral on social media where Saleena Singh sounds surprised on seeing the voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) receipt. She is also heard laughing and warning journalists that they could face police detention if the incident was publicised.

Following this malfunction, the Congress and other parties have demanded paper ballot for by elections in MP. It must be recalled that Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal had also demanded similarly paper ballot for the municipal elections in Delhi.

Meanwhile the Election commission has promised a probe into this serious turn of events. A thorough probe into the incident is necessary to clear doubts in the minds of the common voter about the credibility of their vote and the electoral process of the country.
