There are very few war based films in Telugu and submarine war films are completely rare not only in Telugu but in the entire country. Touted to be India’s first submarine war based film, ‘Ghazi’ released today with a lot of expectations.
The film revolves around how India destroyed Pakistan’s submarine ‘Ghazi’ which was dispatched from Karachi to demolish India’s ‘INS Vikrant’ in 1971 war with the help of ‘INS S-21’ which is headed by Commander Ranveer Singh(KK Menon) who is very attacking in nature. To control him government sends Commander Arjun Varma(Rana Daggupati) along with him.
The film showcases the emotions of the officers and war strategies in a touching and an interesting way. There are a lot of sub layers in the film which are dealt well and director Sankalp gave at most importance to story does not deviate from it and his research for this film is quite evident.
Seasoned actor KK Menon is brilliant in his role and the film contains experienced cast like Nazar, Atul Kulkarni, Om Puri and many others. Though the film is set entirely in the submarine, audience never feel bored of it. While the first half is racy, second half which mainly deals with war episodes could have been dealt more interestingly.
The first half entirely is carried by KK Menon and Rana Daggupati. Especially, people get attached to KK Menon’s character who is a rebel and thinks killing the rival is war rather than getting killed. Rana manages to impress everyone with his subtle act.
Tapsee’s role has nothing to do with the film’s story and looks a bit forced. National anthem scene in the film connects with you and makes you emotional.
While the technical team like cinematography by Madhie, art department, VFX department, music and dialogues falls in place and takes the film to another level. ‘Ghazi’ is definitely a game changer in Telugu cinema and the team needs to be commended for doing a splendid job. Don’t miss this flick.
