The regular serial watchers in the South must have switched to the news channels for the last few days. It is a killing suspense drama now playing out live, with O.Paneerselvam and V. Sasikala, fighting tooth and nail to claim Jayalalithaa’s legacy and become the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. With the BJP governor, Vidyasagar Rao playing a larger than life role in the entire crisis by perfectly timing his absence and presence in Chennai.
The odds are against OPS. His resignation on 5th February was accepted without any hesitation by the Governor. Sasikala on the other hand needs only 117 MLAs on her side to occupy the CM’s seat, which is a simple majority in the 234-strong House.
So what will happen to OPS and Sasikala? We remember the Jallikattu song of the youth protestors- “ Ringa ringa roses. Enga pona OPS?” He definitely has come a long way from his servile role under the late Jayalalithaa.
