George Michael, famous pop singer of the 80s dies

George Michael,pop icon and music legend “passed away peacefully” at home, according to his publicist. He said the singer had died from heart failure in bed. He was 53.

George Michael enjoyed cult status in the 1980s. Born in London to Greek parents, he was known for his stunning good looks. He shot to fame with Wham and is famous for hits like Club Tropicana and Last Christmas. He had a highly successful solo career which included the songs Careless Whisper, Faith, Outside and Freedom! He was an artist who wrote, produced, arranged and performed his own songs. However throughout his career, George Michael had serious problems with drugs and was on the wrong side of the law many times with his risqué behavior.

A singer with many fans in India, he was a craze among youngsters with his good looks. His soulful song-“Careless Whisper” was a Number One hit internationally. It was a hit in India too. It speaks of the deep pathos of infidelity and heart-break. George Michael in a 2009 interview said, “I’m still a bit puzzled why it’s made such an impression on people. Is it because so many people have cheated on their partners? Is that why they connect with it? I have no idea, but it’s ironic that this song which has come to define me in some way should have been written right at the beginning of my career when I was still so young. I was only 17 and didn’t really know much about anything and certainly nothing much about relationships.”

His publicist told the media, “a loved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period. The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.”

George Michael’s death also prompted an outpouring of emotional tributes from various quarters: with musicians-Madonna to Elton John, celebrities and politicians posting their memories of Michael on social media.
