Jagadish Shettiar, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly also was present to grace the wedding. Their presence indicates the close ties shared between the mining barons and the BJP.

Sources also disclose that this was inspite of the top BJP leadership’s warning to keep away from the spectacle as it would anger the common man, who is in queues for hard earned money(the 9th day today). The mining sector had supplied millions for financing the elections that BJP won in 2008. The “Bellary brothers” as they are called also canvassed for Union minister, Sushma Swaraj in the 1999 elections.

Kumaraswamy also attended the grand marriage ceremonies. Congress sources said that the Karnataka Chief Minister, Siddharamaiah will not attend the wedding.
