Gujarat pushed to third position
In the 2016 rankings, the two new states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, jointly shared the top spot for ease in doing business, in the process pushing Gujarat which was in the topspot last year to third position.
This ranking was based on a 340-point business reform plan and its implementation by States. It covered the period from July 1st, 2015 to June 30, 2016. The performance was judged by the World Bank along with the Department of Industrial policy in the Centre.
What was surprising was the fact that, the top ten states also included four of the seven states with the lowest income levels in India- Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Rajasthan. Chattisgarh stood in the fourth position and is known for its rich mineral resources.
