UN celebrates Diwali for the first time in New York HQ

For the first time in the history, the United Nation Organization has celebrated Diwali after it was recognised in 2014. The Diwali selfie spot in New York on 30-31 October evening in UN headquarters from this year. Diwali was also made an optional holiday at the UN and “Happy Diwali” message was also displayed on the New York building of the UN.

India’s permanent representative to the UN tweeted “Happy Diwali”! UN celebrates Diwali for 1st time”. He extended greetings on behalf of people of India, “Thank you President of the General Assembly for this initiative”. He expressed on twitter that it is a privilege and honor to serve India in UNO. “I am humbled. Thank U for all the good wishes. Will strive to do my best,” he added.
