Is Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the CM of Andhra Pradesh, engineering fresh separatist movements in the already truncated State? A serious student of the developmental policies and plans of Chandrababu would not hesitate to reply in affirmative. It is the collective experience of ‘Undivided A.P’ that concentrated development plans would invariably end up in instigating separatist movements in different regions of a State. These movements seem to be in offing in Rayalaseema and North Andhra as well. Although the Centre has put forth a proposal for providing financial packages, similar to that allocated for Bundelkhand, for both these areas, AP govt. is not responding properly. This stance has started taking its toll.
SEEMA SEPARATISM IN OFFING?
The G.O 120, which deprived the Rayala Seema area students from getting selected for the majority number of seats of SVIMS Sri Padmavati Medical College for Women, ignited separatist sentiments among the students of this backward region. The High Court and Supreme Court striking down the controversial G.O. came as a shot in the arm of the students who have raised the banner of separatist slogans. Although the verdicts, which were aptly termed as a slap in the face of Chandrababu Government, cleared the obstacles for the Eight local students’ admissions, the fears and fright that were caused by the GO remain in force. This GO speaks of the true nature of the developmental policies of Chandrababu govt.
People of Rayala Seema are not prepared to believe the bluff of the Chandrababu government that it will provide potable water for this region through the Pattiseema Project. The hurry being shown in ‘completing’ this half baked project is raising many an eyebrow. The CM of AP appears to show his Singapore Partners the provision of water for the Capital City to be built.
UNREST IN UTTARAANDHRA
The Govt. decision to acquire 16,000 acres of land in the Bhogapuram area of Vizianagaram district for developing an Air Port, set fire to separatist sentiments in the economically backward North Andhra region. The first query of the farmers of this region is whether so many thousands of acres of land is necessary for a single Air Port however large it might be. Till this day no responsible person from the govt. side could provide a satisfactory answer to this query.
Chandrababu Naidu&Co should realize immediately that this school of development which piles up prosperity on one region and showers affluence on a particular community while heaping up deprivation on other regions and communities is bound to put a match to highly inflammable separatist sentiments.
