An Encounter with Mahatma

Every human soul seeks happiness. But saints say that happiness is within ourselves. If that is so, why are we not able to feel that warmness and that happiness? – That is the question.
How much ever we clean our houses, the dust always comes back the next day. Similarly, the thoughts, desires and diversions, in-front of which, even great men fall down to his knees, pollute our minds. We then, don’t tend to realise the warmness and happiness within ourselves. Humans who are supposed to live with nature, with unity and with love instead tend to divide themselves and begin to think uncivilised. Along with the wars among Crusades, Christians and Muslims, we have wars of Chirstians, wars between the Shaivates and Vaishnavates, Hindu – Muslims and we began to divide ourselves even on the basis of a simple factor such as the colour of our skin and we successfully stained the history of the world with blood. Many great people, then, lit the light of truth and spread that light among people at different parts of the world.
Mahatma Gandhi, a common man like us, with his unconditional love united the people of different regions, religions, casts, languages and like a father, he led us all and brought us together onto one path. Pope, the leader of worldwide Catholic Church, knelt down before Gandhi’s grave and said that though Gandhi was a Hindu by religion, he is an example of how a true Christian must live. Similarly, Buddhism leader, Dalailama and Kaanchi Paramaachaarya Sankaraachaarya and many other such people praised and admired Mahatma Gandhi.
It’s a human tendency to follow someone or something that we admire. People who admired Jesus Christ became Christians, the ones who admired Buddha – Buddhists and so on… Then we have people who were initially of one religion but changed later into another. Number of times, Mahatma Gandhi admired and acclaimed Jesus Christ, Prophet Muhammad and Buddha. But he did not change his religion, why?
The humanity of today requires Mahatma Gandhi more than before. More importantly, I believe that, we need Mahatma Gandhi to the world even more to answer the fundamental doubts of the present youth.
