The lot of TDP leaders and cadres, a.k.a. Telugu Thammullu , are in no mood to admit that theirs is just a Local, Regional Party. More so, after the bifurcation of the Telugu State. They insist that theirs is a ‘National Party’ now. Chandrababu is also trumpeting the same tune by announcing different State bodies for AP and TS along with a ‘Central’ Committee. But it’s all an exercise meant for their own contentment as the clauses of the Election Commission do not approve this stance. TDP can’t be recognized as a National Party in near future, according to the views expressed by analysts.
The analysts say that there are three ways for getting the National Party Recognition from the EC.
1. A Party which desires to be recognized as a National Party must win a minimum of 2% of seats – which comes to 11- in the sitting Loksabha. Not just that- these 11 seats must be won from three different States. But, TDP can’t satisfy this rule as it won seats from two States only.
2. A Party which desires to be recognized as a National Party must win a minimum of 6% of polled votes from four different States. And not just that- it must also win a minimum of four Loksabha seats from those States. But, TDP can’t satisfy even this rule as its LS seats were won from the two Telugu States only.
3. A Party which desires to be recognized as a National Party must already have been recognized as a Regional Party at least in four States. But, TDP can’t satisfy even this rule as it does not have such recognition in four States.
Hence, it’s clear now that TDP can’t successfully bid for National Party recognition from the EC.
Anyway, TDP is not craving for National Party recognition for nothing. If a Party is recognized as a national body it gets a uniform Election Symbol throughout the country. And, it will also be allocated a certain time on the DD Channels.
